St. Patty's Day 2012

For St. Patty's day this year I got this awesome recipe from Bakerella.com for green velvet cupcakes.  One batch made 22 regular cupcakes and 12 minis.  They donned cream cheese frosting (recipe from the same website) and green crystal sugar.  They were moist and yummy; I'd definitely bake this recipe again.

Wubbzy First Birthday

Since my son was born, he loved the Nick Jr. show Wow Wow Wubbzy!  So when it was time to plan for his first birthday it was a no-brainer.  Unfortunately Wow Wow Wubbzy doesn't have the following that Dora the Explorer or Yo Gabba Gabba has.  It was easiest for me to bake the cake.  Nick Jr. has a lovely template for it.  The body is made out of traditional confetti birthday cake, double layer, with a strawberry filling and butter cream frosting.  His appendages are made of melted chocolate and are all outlined with black icing.  The kickety-kick ball cupcakes are a chocolate cake with butter cream frosting.

Additionally, cake pops were made.  If you are at all familiar with the process of making cake pops, it's tedious and time consuming but it is a crowd-pleaser.  The project was even more time consuming because I had to form round balls into rectangular shapes.  The filling is vanilla cake with vanilla icing.  The shell is yellow dipping chocolate and I piped black chocolate for the eyes, nose, and mouth.
